Finger rafting
Description
"Finger rafting process" or Finger rafting it develops in the ice cover as a result of the compression regime established in the ice plane.
When two sites of sea ice approach, one of them smoothly slides over the other (moves) at a given distance, which leads to a local increase in the thickness of the ice. The term refers to the systematic alternation of interconnected "thrusts" and "sub-thrusts" from the ice pads involved in this process. This pattern got its name because of the similarity with the interlacing of fingers.
The resulting shapes are most noticeable when the process affects new young ice, but also occurs in ice of any thickness. The process of finger fusion is usually observed inside the leash after the formation of a thin layer of ice.
