A writer living next to Mulder becomes obsessed with Scully and confesses to her that he is using her for a character in his novel. Scully finds herself strangely drawn to him even though he is now the prime suspect in the murder case that she and Mulder are investigating.

Description

"Milagro" (translated from Spanish as "Miracle") is the eighteenth episode of the sixth season of the TV series "The X-Files". The episode belongs to the "monster of the week" type and is not related to the "mythology" of the series set in the first series.

Plot

Agents Mulder and Scully investigate a series of murders, the victims of which have their hearts removed in an unknown way. The writer who lives next door to Mulder describes the murders in his novel before they actually happen. Scully has conflicting feelings about the writer, who shows an increased interest in her.

Paranormal abilities

The writer describes his character and the murders committed by him so vividly that he materializes and begins to commit attacks in the real world. The killer has the ability to extract people's hearts without damaging the surrounding tissue. It remains unclear how material he is: he normally interacts with objects and people, but bullets fired at point-blank range pass through his body and do not cause harm. He is aware of himself as a character in the book and communicates with his creator, but does not understand the motives of his actions, because the author did not prescribe them.

The character disappears when the writer burns the manuscript, after which he himself dies.
