While celebrating Scully's 33rd birthday, a strange woman informs Mulder that NICAP member Max Fenig (see Fallen Angel) has recently died in a plane crash. After a visit to the crash site and finding Max's body with radiation burns on it, Mulder suggests that the plane was intercepted by a UFO and is rapidly being covered up by the military.

Description

"Time flies" (orig. "Tempus fugit" and " Max " are the seventeenth and eighteenth episodes of the fourth season of the X-Files. The episodes reveal the so-called "mythology" of the series, set in the pilot series.

Plot

In the seventeenth episode, Mulder and Scully investigate the crash of a civilian plane with more than a hundred dead, among them Mulder's longtime acquaintance, the lone seeker Max Fenig. A woman who calls herself his sister tells Mulder that Max was carrying something that was supposed to help the agent in his search for the truth. When investigating the wreckage of the plane, as well as after deciphering the black boxes, the agents are convinced that the cause of the crash was a UFO.

In the eighteenth episode, Mulder and Scully continue to investigate the crash of the liner. The agents discover that the military is involved, and take the air traffic controller at the military base under guard. However, they are tracked down, and Agent Pendrell is killed in a shootout in a cafe. It turns out that a military plane shot down a UFO that got close to a civilian plane to take Max Fenig's cargo.

UFO

Several UFOs are present in the episodes.

The first object is not shown to the audience, but its presence indicates a bright white light in the windows of the aircraft. When the UFO approaches the plane, the latter suddenly begins to shake violently, but soon the vibrations stop. The watch on the passengers ' hands stops a few minutes before the shaking starts, and attempts to fire the gun are unsuccessful. The UFO opens the emergency hatch of the plane from the outside and kidnaps one of the passengers: he stops moving, takes off over the seat and moves through the air towards the bright light. After a while, it is returned to its place in the same way.

The second UFO sees one of the minor characters over the crash site of the plane. It is a triangular-shaped flying object with white lights on the bottom and a bright beam shooting out from the center. UFO is able to instantly move and disappear from the field of view.

Chronoanomalia

People who have experienced contact with aliens lose 9 minutes of objective time. Their clocks are lagging behind, and there is no memory of events that occurred during this period.

The Alien

The episodes show the corpses of aliens, allegedly on board the crashed UFO. These are creatures similar to the classic "gray" aliens. They have a thin, hairless body and a large head with huge black eyes, a small mouth and nose.
