Description

Palm springs is a 2020 American Comedy-fantasy film. The film premiered on January 26, 2020 at the Sundance film festival. On July 10, 2020, the film was released in theaters, as well as in digital format on the Hulu service.

The film exploits and expands the concept of "Groundhog Day". The main differences are that several people fall into the loop, the reason for the hit is initially known, and science helps to find a way out of it, not self-improvement, but science.

Plot

The main character of the film named Niles wakes up in his girlfriend misty's room on November 9, the day of Tala and Abe's wedding. Despite the fact that he is the boyfriend of one of the bridesmaids, Niles is in no hurry to put on a tuxedo. In shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, he jumps into the pool, drinks beer all day, and in the evening delivers a touching speech for the newlyweds, thus helping Tala's sister Sarah, who is confused by the need to make a toast.

Niles and Sarah spend the rest of the evening together, talking about life. After dark, they discover that misty is cheating on Niles. The young men decide to go for a walk in the desert and are about to have sex, when an elderly man named Roy suddenly appears and shoots Niles with an arrow.

A wounded Niles crawls to a nearby cave and warns Sarah not to follow him. Not obeying the advice, Sarah goes into the cave and gets caught in a strange glowing vortex.

Sarah wakes up and realizes that it is November 9 again.

She meets Niles, who explains to her that she is caught in a time loop and he doesn't know how to get out of it. He also says that Roy, who shot him, is also stuck here because of him. They start spending time together. At first, Sarah tries to follow Niles ' advice and relax, breaking away to the fullest, but soon realizes that she wants to get out of the loop. Niles declares that he likes the day and doesn't want to leave.

Sarah leaves Niles, studies quantum physics for a long time, and as a result comes up with a way to escape. According to her calculations, to do this, you need to blow yourself up during the transition to the beginning of the loop in the mysterious portal located in the cave.

Meanwhile, Niles realizes that he loves Sarah. He apologizes to Roy, who will never see his children grow up because of him, and also tells Sarah that he wants to try to escape and move on with her, even if the chances of a happy outcome are small. Sarah dictates a way for Roy to escape the noose over the phone.

In the post-credits scene, the viewer sees Sarah and Niles swimming in the pool on November 10.

Chronoanomalia

The main characters of the film are locked in a time loop, the entrance to which is located in one of the caves near palm springs. The cave opens after a not very strong earthquake that collapsed part of the rock.

Caught in the loop of people living the same day over and over again. It starts when they Wake up and ends when they fall asleep, die, or re-enter the cave. No actions performed during the day have consequences in the next cycle, but the characters have memories of all the days they lived.

It is possible to leave the chronoanomalia by blowing itself up in a cave during the 3.6-second transition to the beginning of the time loop.

Probably, the chronoanomaly in the film manifests itself not only in the form of a time loop, but also in the form of time travel. So, the main characters in one of the recurring nights see dinosaurs walking in the desert.
