Description

"The Monster Squad "(English: "The Monster Squad") is a comedy horror film released in 1987.

The film features images of classic Universal monsters, who, led by Count Dracula, are trying to take over the world.

Despite the fact that the film was not a great success during the rental and received mixed reviews from critics, the picture had a positive response from the audience and over the years has become a cult classic.

Plot

There is an amulet that preserves the balance of forces of good and evil. Only once in a hundred years, these forces are in full balance, and the amulet becomes vulnerable and can be destroyed. It is on this night that the forces of good and evil begin to fight for the amulet.

In 1987, a hundred years after the previous confrontation, Count Dracula begins to gather an army of monsters. His army is joined by the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Wolf-Man. Frankenstein's monster also joins the uniting forces of good, which are led by the boy Sean, who received a notebook from Professor Van Helsing as a gift from his mother.

Children under the leadership of Sean need to open a portal to a parallel world and get rid of monsters forever, otherwise the forces of evil will forever rule the planet.

Zombies

Zombies in the film are very diverse.

The first and most interesting of them is the Frankenstein's monster. For the first time, he appears boarded up in a wooden box and does not show signs of life. As in the original film, an electric current induced by lightning is used to revive it, passed through electrodes implanted in the monster's body. The monster shows a weak intellect: he understands the words addressed to him, can pronounce several phrases himself, and also distinguishes good deeds from evil ones. Unlike the other monsters shown in the film, he is not evil, makes friends with children and even resists Dracula, who tries to harm them.

Another living dead is a mummy that escaped from the museum on the night of Dracula's appearance in the city. She stupidly moves around the city until she meets the main characters and attacks them. It is possible to kill the mummy by unwinding the bandages covering its body, as a result of which it crumbles into dust (at the same time, when a part of the body has already ceased to exist, the rest of the mummy continues to attack the heroes).

Finally, the last zombies shown in the film are half-rotted corpses buried under Count Dracula's castle and come to life when reading a spell that opens a portal to Limbo.

A vampire

The film shows several vampires. The main one is Count Dracula - a classic monster from the works of Bram Stoker. He looks like an ordinary person with pale skin, can fly and turn into a bat. Dracula is afraid of garlic: even touching his skin with garlic pizza quickly causes a severe burn.

Other vampires are Dracula's brides. Both in 1887 and in 1987 there are three of them, and these are ordinary girls who were turned by a vampire count. Unlike Dracula himself, who has never bitten anyone during the entire film and has not even demonstrated vampire fangs, his brides drink blood, although they are limited to small animals.

You can kill vampires only by plunging a wooden stake into their heart. Other methods do not work: for example, Dracula, pierced by a metal pike, attacks people again after a few minutes.

Werewolf

The film shows a classic werewolf-a man who turns into a large humanoid wolf on a full moon. The monster knows about his curse, suffers from it and in human form tries to protect others, begging to lock him up in prison. After the transformation, he ceases to control himself and attacks everyone he sees (except perhaps monsters). A werewolf in the form of a monster obeys Count Dracula.

You can only kill a werewolf with a silver bullet. Ordinary weapons can delay him, but not for long: the monster's wounds heal quickly. Even when torn apart, his body comes together in a few minutes.

Aquatic creatures

The film shows a creature that first appeared in the 1954 film "The Creature from the Black Lagoon". This is a humanoid monster that lives in the water, but moves freely on land. The creature's body is covered with scales and fins. The monster does not speak and does not show signs of intelligence, it is not even clear whether it obeys Dracula.

It is possible to kill the monster with a single shot from a shotgun.

Parallel world

The entrance to the parallel world, which is called "Limbo" in the film, can be opened once in one hundred years with the help of a magic amulet and a special spell that a virgin must read. The amulet is a "concentrated good" and is usually indestructible, but once in a hundred years it becomes vulnerable and can be split, as a result of which the balance between good and evil will be disturbed forever.

The portal to Limbo is a huge funnel that draws in everything nearby. Based on the records of Van Helsing, the monsters that got into Limbo will be destroyed forever.
