Not of This Earth

"From Another World" (English "Not of This Earth") is an American science fiction comedy horror film released in 1988. It is a remake (and in some moments, a frame–by-frame reconstruction) of the 1957 film of the same name.

The film appeared as a result of a bet: the director bet that he could remake the film with the same budget (adjusted for inflation) and schedule as the 1957 version of Corman. It is also interesting that the film was originally conceived as a musical comedy.

Nadine Storey is a nurse working in Dr. Rochelle's office. She meets an unusual patient, Mr. Johnson, who is always dressed in black, wears dark sunglasses and requires a blood transfusion. After Dr. Rochelle examines Johnson's blood, he is surprised to discover that this man's body does not produce blood in the usual way. Johnson hires Nadine to work at his house and give him regular blood transfusions.

With the help of her boyfriend Harry, Nadine soon discovers that Johnson is an alien emissary from the planet Davanna, who collects the human blood his people need to survive.

The film shows a spaceship on which an alien arrives on earth.

An alien from the planet Davanna arrives on Earth in a spaceship to conduct a study of the blood of earthlings for its suitability for transfusion to his tribesmen. The alien's home planet has survived a nuclear war, and its population is slowly dying out. As a result of prolonged exposure to radiation, the aliens' blood continuously decays, and they need regular transfusions to maintain life. If the mission is successful, the aliens plan to colonize the Earth.

To pay the earthlings for goods and services, the alien uses gold, not money. He wears a formal suit and black sunglasses that hide his glowing eyes. Other aliens sent to Earth look similar.

The alien constantly walks with a suitcase, with the help of the contents of which he pumps out the blood of the victims to be sent to his planet. Blood is suitable for transfusion to aliens. Also, the alien is trying to teleport an Earth girl for experiments, but she turns into a bloody mess. The reason for this remains unknown.

The film also shows an alien who escaped from her planet when she realized that most of the population had already been killed by the rebels. She is transfused with blood infected with rabies, after which she begins to attack people with a knife, and then dies. After death, her eyes turn completely black.

An alien can read and control the thoughts and actions of people, completely suppressing their will, as well as mentally communicate with other aliens (although to communicate with an alien on another planet, he needs to use a special device combining the functions of a teleporter and means of communication). If the alien takes off his glasses, then the person who looks into his eyes is enveloped in brilliant smoke, he becomes numb and loses consciousness. The alien is afraid of harsh sounds when he hears them - he covers his head with his hands and loses control over the people who have already obeyed.

The alien does not eat earthly food, but eats a substance dissolved in water that completely covers his needs for the necessary trace elements. When this substance is dissolved in water, a pink cloud forms over the glass.
