Description
Wagateva (Wag-at-the-Wa') or Humpty-from-the-wall is the homely spirit of the Scottish Border, similar to brownies, but more eccentric. He appreciates a cheerful disposition in people and loves the company of children. His usual place in the house was a boiler hook over the hearth (he sat on a free hook and swung on it, laughing happily at the jokes of the company gathered by the hearth).
Does not approve of drinks stronger than homemade ale (when drinking strong drinks in the house with this creature, you can hear an irritated cough).
Despite the cheerful disposition, the creature constantly suffers from toothache.
Vagateva, like almost all brownies, has no fear of cold iron, but is afraid of the sign of the cross, and it is worth drawing a cross on the hook to protect the hearth from witches, as vagateva immediately disappears. If you swing an empty hook over the hearth, then you can call vagateva.
