Iara

An aquatic creature from the mythology of the indigenous population of Brazil. This is a woman with green hair decorated with red flowers, copper-colored skin and brown eyes. Some say that she is a half-dolphin or half-giant, and not a half-fish. She is sitting on a rock by the river, combing her hair or dozing in the sun. When she felt a man next to her, she began to sing softly to seduce him. Once under the spell of Iara, a man would leave anything to live with her underwater forever, which was not necessarily a bad thing, since she was pretty and satisfied all the needs of her lover for the rest of his life. She also seduces swimmers and fishermen, strangles her chosen ones (kisses them to death).

Depending on the oral tradition and the context of the story, she can be considered as a water nymph, a siren or a beautiful mermaid living in the rivers of the Amazon basin.
