Description

Animals, having lived for enough years, get the ability to turn into people. Such animals are usually designated by the word "hengeekai". The word itself consists of two parts: yokai (妖怪 ), which can be translated as "magic ghost" or "monster", and henge (変化) "werewolf", "changing".

Usually allocate:

  • Tanuki are raccoon dogs.
  • Kitsune (狐[きつね]) - foxes. ​‌​​​‌ ​​‌‌‌​ ​​‌​‌‌ ​​‌‌​‌ ​‌​​‌‌ ​‌​‌​‌​ ​‌‌​‌‌​ ​‌‌‌​‌‌ ​​‌‌‌‌
  • Neko or bakeneko (化け猫 [ばけねこ]) - cats. 
  • Inu or inu-gami (犬神[─ぬがみ]) - dogs.

  • Nezumi (鼠) — rats.
  • Kumo or jeregumo (くも or じょろうぐも) — spiders.
  • Koi — carp. ​​‌‌‌​ ​​‌​‌‌ ​​‌‌​‌ ​‌​​‌‌ ​‌​‌​‌​ ​‌‌​‌‌​ ​‌‌‌​‌‌ ​​‌‌‌‌
  • Hebi — snakes.
  • Mudzina (狢 [むじな]) - badgers.
  • Okami (狼[大神]) — wolves.
