Description

A creature from the folklore of American immigrants. In the mountains of Colorado, where the forests are teeming with tourists in summer, the deluvial bolter is of the greatest concern.

This scary animal lives only on the steepest slopes with an angle of inclination of at least 45 degrees. He has a huge head with small eyes and a mouth that goes back beyond the line of the ears, much like the Kerchakovs. The tail consists of a forked fin with huge hooks, with which the bolter is fixed over the crest of a mountain or ridge; it often remains there motionless for several days, watching the gorge, where tourists or other unlucky creatures can enter.

At the right moment, noticing the tourist, the bolter raises its tail, releases a thin layer of lubricant from the corners of its mouth, which significantly increases the sliding speed, and descends from the mountain like a sledge, staring with small eyes at the poor unfortunate; he drags the victim with him and, under the influence of his own impulse, climbs to the next slope, where he again throws his tail over the ridge And he's waiting. There are stories of entire detachments of tourists captured and carried far into the hills in one fell swoop.

Bolters are a threat not only to tourists, but also to the forest itself. Currently, there are many clearings on the spruce-covered slopes, where a bolter fell from the top, trees were uprooted or mowed down.
