Davy Jones

The creature from the legends of British sailors.

Davy Jones is considered an evil spirit living in the sea, and his locker is the ocean that takes dead sailors. It foretells death during a storm. 

According to legends, he had big round eyes, three rows of teeth, horns, and a tail, and he appeared in blue smoke.

The seabed or the figurative name of the grave where deceased sailors landed was called Davy Jones’ Locker; often mistakenly called "Davy Jones' chest."

"Go for Davy Jones' chest" meant to drown, "awaken Davy Jones" meant to call a storm, and "be in the power of Davy Jones" meant to be overcome by terror. Davy Jones was also called a sailor who drank himself to death.
