Description

The Covered Lady (La Dama Tapada) is the main heroine of the legend of Ecuadorian folk beliefs.

It is said that this creature of unknown origin appeared after midnight to drunken men who often visited not very crowded alleys.

She was often seen in the northern sector of the city, near the old church of Santo Domingo, midnighters could not pass through this place after midnight.

There were also those who claimed to have seen her at close range, and explained that it was a lady dressed all in black in the mourning style of the time, and whose dress was complemented by a thick blanket of the same color, behind which she hid her face, and she insinuated herself to the revelers, who, unfortunately, were with her.

Many claimed that they had seen this lady without a veil, and in the place that a beautiful face should occupy, a white and pale face of death appeared.

Most of the victims died in convulsions and foaming at the mouth, some from fright, and others from the disgusting stench that the ghost emitted when transforming. Very few survived, and in popular culture they were called scammers.

There are those who say that the Covered Lady still walks through the night alleys of Guayaquil.
