Recently, residents of France witnessed a rare and mesmerizing spectacle: "red sprites" appeared in the night sky, resembling huge glowing jellyfish. This natural phenomenon was captured by an eyewitness in the sky over Nice and Lake Geneva during recent storms over France.

Photographer Christophe Suarez, who specializes in storm photography, was able to capture this unusual sight. He posted several of his photos on the X social network. In one of the photos, the flash of light resembles a giant glowing jellyfish.

"The sight was stunning. Fortunately, we were under the stars," Christophe wrote.

In a conversation with the Daily Star, he added that he was able to photograph the Northern Lights and red sprites within 24 hours.

"I've been photographing storms for over 20 years. I get great pleasure in seeing red sprites appear on the LCD screens of my devices, but this time it was better than usual because the phenomena were powerful and very clear," he said.

Christophe added that he was shooting the storm from a distance of almost 300 kilometers. He also noted that scientists cannot fully explain luminous phenomena like red sprites.

The Internet is actively discussing the photos of red sprites, and some people did not like this natural phenomenon very much. The thing is that in many cultures, sprites are considered omens of future events. For example, in some European countries, sprites were considered signs of approaching storms or disasters.

According to experts, such light phenomena are short-lived instances of electrical discharge / electrically induced forms of luminescent plasma, which occur at significantly higher altitudes than ordinary lightning and clouds.
