Znamenskaya Tower

There are several ghosts living here at once, unrelated to each other. Firstly, during the time of the militia, the tower was a military gathering point and strategic decisions were made in it. Allegedly, visitors to the tower saw military men from the militia of Minin and Pozharsky walking up the stairs. Moreover, this is not the only ghost of the Znamenskaya Tower.

According to legend, once a year, at midnight, a thin man in a long coat, black gloves and with a "mauser" in his hand appears at the walls of the tower from the side of Volkovskaya Square. This is the ghost of the red commissar. For a few minutes he stands at the tower, kneeling. During the White Guard mutiny of 1918, the rebels seized the Volkovsky Theater and held the defense. When it was not possible to take the fortress, this commissar promised to save the lives of all those who surrendered. The conditions were accepted, but as soon as the rebels left the theater, they were shot at the walls of the Znamenskaya Tower. By the way, this commissar did not live long after that — soon he himself was shot.

According to legend, he is now forever cursed and now every year appears at the place where he committed this crime.
