Vavilov Dol

Вавилов Дол, Saratovskaya oblast', Russian Federation

Description

Vavilov Dol is a ravine near the village of Gorely Guy (Ivanteevsky district, Saratov region). It is considered a sacred place, there are sound-mirages, chronomirages.

In 1914, St. Nicholas Church was built on one of the hills near the ravine. In 1929, the church and the entrances to the cave monastery were blown up, some monks and elders were shot on the spot. According to local residents, the glow was repeatedly seen over the grave of the elder Babila, the singing of an invisible choir and the ringing of bells were heard from underground. Cracks were allegedly noticed in the walls of the ravine, from where light streamed and the smell of incense wafted.

There is a belief that the underground monastery is still operating secretly, but it is inhabited exclusively by holy immortal monks.
