Shara-Nur Lake

Shara-Nur means "Yellow Lake" in Buryat. It got a similar name for the muddy color of the water, extremely saturated with hydrogen sulfide. For this reason, nowadays the reservoir attracts people suffering from joint diseases. They say that the disease disappears without a trace after several bathing of the patient in the waters of Shara-Nur.

In the old days, the local population was afraid to dive into the lake, because they believed that a giant yellow snake, Shara-Kaaya, lived in it.
