The Queen Sofia Center for Contemporary Art

Центр современного искусства королевы Софии, Мадрид, Spain

Description

The old Caridad Hospital in Madrid, in the basement of which the poorest were buried (at that time the city was devastated by various epidemics), was transformed into the Queen Sofia Center for Contemporary Art. In the 19th century, there were many stories about goblins and ghosts who climbed into the wards of some patients at night to announce that their death was near. Now workers and visitors talk about strange sensations, paranormal phenomena, images from bygone eras. Sometimes it's just noises and unknown sounds, and sometimes whole predictions for a random eyewitness. Many even personally observed various spirits (for example, a monk in ancient robes).

Interestingly, in 1990, when the second reconstruction was underway, three mummified nuns were found buried in the old hospital chapel, a place that is now used as a basement and where, according to some museum workers, most of the paranormal phenomena occur. In fact, three mummies remain buried under the main entrance of the museum after the permission of the archdiocese.
