Plague Lane

Пречистенка, Moskovskaya oblast', Russian Federation

Description

Prechistenka was once called a Church: so they called a deep ravine and a stream that flowed on the site of a habitable street. The ravine - therefore, the devil, the devil was digging. Pagans once lived here, sacrificed to Perun.

In 1656, Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, who traveled this way to worship icons in the Novodevichy Monastery, ordered the bad name to be changed to the most pure. But the holy land did not become: nearby, in an alley, they arranged a God's house - a "miserable house", that is, a morgue, to which the deceased poor devils were taken without a family without a tribe. Under Stalin, the Church of the Savior Not Made with Hands was demolished: the dug bags with bones were still lying around in Chertolsky Lane for a long time. Now a typical Moscow school is on the dust.

But orphans and visitors did not want to calm down in the Chertol graves. Until now, black shadows whisper in the alley at night, and dark old women from a shelter for the poor that broke two hundred years ago appear to schoolchildren.
