Paramount

Back in the 30s, Paramount was the coolest place in Shanghai. Charlie Chaplin himself danced there with Paulette Goddard on his only evening in this city. But this does not mean that the club was so safe. This was confirmed by a certain young woman named Chen Manli, who in 1941 worked there as a paid dance partner (in English it's called taxi dancer – you could order such a pair for yourself, like a taxi). 

According to legend, she once refused to dance with a Japanese officer. In response to such an insult, a man in black entered the dance and shot her on the dance floor. It was possible to dance on the ill-fated fourth floor, where the murder took place, a couple of years ago. And some employees claimed to have seen the ghost of that young dancer who was slowly spinning in silence.
