Och .

Очате, Spain

Description

Ochate is a depopulated area that has gained fame since the end of the 20th century due to alleged paranormal phenomena. Interestingly, Ochate in Basque means, according to some interpretations, "secret door" or "cold door", while others indicate that it comes from the old name Gogate, "upper town", in relation to the geography of this place.

Until now, the only serious work revealing the history of this city on a documentary level was the book Antonio Arroyo and Julio Corrala "Ochate, reality and the legend of the cursed city", where it is indicated that the first written mention of Ochate is in the Reja de San Miljan, dating from 1025 (the city is referred to as Gogate).

This place is considered one of the most mysterious places in Spain. The legend was born in the eighties thanks to an article published in Mundo Desconocido called Lights in the secret door. The article is based on a photo UFO flying in the vicinity of the Ochate area, taken in 1981 Prudencio Muguruza, although some experts considered this photo to be false. According to this version, Ochate should have been abandoned due to three mysterious epidemics that occurred in 1860, 1864 and 1870: smallpox, typhus and cholera, which devastated this place. For unexplained reasons, the epidemics did not affect the neighboring population.

Despite the controversy over these and other data, for many years there have been numerous testimonies, sound documents and various psychophonies about a girl of 9-10 years shouting "kanpora" ("out", in Basque), and a mature woman who says: "What else does a closed door do?"
