House of Mercy

On July 6, 2011, the newspaper Las Provincias published an article titled "The Ghost of Mercy", which was the beginning of the popularization of a new legend. To confirm what was said in the title, he added:

"Cleaning staff and security guards claim that they saw strange phenomena in the building where the old orphanage was located. The guards refuse to work at night in the educational complex."

About a thousand children in need of help lived in this complex in the post-war period. According to some people who grew up in the center in those years, exemplary punishments were used at that time, some children drowned in the pool of the complex, and another died after falling out of a third-floor window. Other evidence suggests that they had severe flu attacks, food was scarce, and, most seriously, some priests at the center abused children.

Today it houses the headquarters in Valencia of the National University of Distance Education (UNED), a secondary school, another vocational training institute and three other centers.

Until now, the workers claim to have witnessed paranormal phenomena, such as lights that turn on and off by themselves, pictures that suddenly fall to the ground, strange sounds for no apparent reason, the crying of a child... Once even a woman saw a boy in one of the windows, right in the window of the third floor, from which a child fell out many years ago.
