Grodziec Castle

Zamek Grodziec, D. Poż. Nr39, Grodziec, Gmina Zagrodno, Złotoryjski powiat, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, 59-516, Poland

Description

Grodziec Castle is a place worth visiting on a spring weekend.

The place is beautiful, and it is associated with many interesting legends, immortalized by various sculptures. Those who wish to meet the ghost should wait until evening. A red ghost in armor and a red cloak roams the corridors of the inner courtyard of the castle.

Grodziec Castle in Lower Silesia is inhabited by the horrifying Red Ghost. It appears in the castle's inner courtyard. The ghost takes the form of a skeleton in armor and an orange cloak. Interestingly, the Red Ghost already terrified our ancestors. It seems that the Piasts of Legnica did not give him peace.

The appearance of the Red Ghost is associated with a medieval legend about a castellan named Jan. The Red Ghost appeared to this lord, who ruthlessly oppressed his subjects, during a feast. The castellan was so scared that he decided to change his life - until his death, he was very devout, mortified himself, fasted, and was very tender to his subjects.

Two years later, his grandson and namesake sat on Grodziec, just as cruel as his grandfather in his youth. One day, he held a trial against his subjects who did not pay him tribute. When he sentenced a poor man to die of hunger, ducats flew out of the mouth of a stone head. This event shook him as much as it did his grandfather many years ago. He freed the convicts, allowed his daughter Agnieszka to marry a princely servant, and gave his estate to the newlyweds.
