Fortress of Montsegur

Крепость Монсегюр, France

Description

The fortress of Montsegur is a small defensive structure located on one of the Pyrenean peaks, about which there are many myths, legends and legends.

It is believed that Montsegur was the last citadel of the Cathars after the crusade declared against them and the secret repository of their countless treasures, including the holy Grail. After a 10-month siege in March 1244, the last defenders (more than 200 men and women) surrendered the fortress, then calmly descended from the mountain and ascended the funeral pyres singing. Thus, it is believed that all the defenders of Montsegur died and there was no one to take the treasures out of the fortress. Nevertheless, no jewelry, including the Grail cup, was ever found inside.

According to one version, a dozen knights took the cup right in front of the eyes of the Catholic Crusaders besieging the fortress due to their ability to become invisible. According to another version, this place itself is "charmed” and the treasures of secret societies will be able to appear only before the eyes of initiates.
