The estate of the Romanovs

Усадьба Романовых, Lipetskaya oblast', Russian Federation

Description

In the Volovsky district, a few kilometers from the village of Zakharovka, there is a two-story brick mansion that belonged to Nicholas II and his cousin, Prince Andrei Vladimirovich Romanov. A relative of the tsar came here a couple of times with his beloved Matilda Kshesinskaya.

This is an old mansion built in the early 20th century. A beautiful garden was arranged around it, with a pond and a gazebo by the water.

After the revolution, a sad fate awaited the estate. In Soviet times, a pig-breeding state farm and a machine and tractor station were located on the territory of the estate. During the Great Patriotic War, there was a German military hospital here. Then the district high school worked in the manager's house. When she moved out of here in 2005, the building fell into disrepair.

Now the building belongs to a private person and has been restored, and excursions are sometimes taken to it.

According to legends, the spirits of the executed royal family still roam in this place lost in time.
