Czech Krumlov

Чешский Крумлов, Czech Republic

Description

Czech Krumlov— a small and cozy town under UNESCO protection, is one of the most colorful cities in Europe.

The ghost of the White Lady lives here. This is the same White Lady who has been followed by a trail of rumors and mysterious stories for 500 years.

According to one of the legends, her name was Perkhta. She was born in 1429 in a family of famous Rozhmberks from Czech Krumlov. When the girl turned 20, the domineering father forcibly married her off. Perkhta's husband turned out to be a real monster. Unable to withstand the beatings and bullying, the girl decided to return to her native castle, but the harsh father did not even let her on the threshold. The unfortunate woman was forced to stay with her husband and endure his cruel treatment for more than twenty years. Before her death, her husband repented and asked Perkhta for forgiveness, but she was relentless. In his heart, he shouted a terrible curse: Perkhta herself died soon after, and three years later a mysterious White Lady began to appear in all the castles of the Rozhmberk family (there are five of them in South Bohemia).

Another legend is actually connected with the castle of the Czech Krumlov. She tells about the barber's daughter Marketa Pichlerova. Emperor Rudolf II settled his crazy son Julius d'Austria in the castle. In a fit of madness, he killed his beloved there, the barber's daughter Marketa Pichlerova. By order of the emperor, he was arrested and given several rooms, where he soon died. According to a legend that has come down to our days, the ghost of a poor girl can still sometimes be seen in the castle…
