City Square

Таллинн, Estonia

Description

The city of "Reval" (Sweden. Revel, German. Rewal, lat. Reualia, est. Revala) from the name of the former principality (land) of Revala, around the XIII century it acquired its modern name - Tallinn.

The legend of the "Chatty Ratman" is known:

According to the law of the city of Revel, ratmans had no right to talk about the discussions that were held at the magistrate's council.
The wife of one of the ratmans turned out to be very curious. She wanted to know what they were talking about at the Town Hall. No amount of excuses could quell her curiosity. One day Ratman could not stand it and gave his wife a secret.

The next morning, my wife met a neighbor and blurted everything out to her, soon the whole city learned about the secret discussion of the magistrate.

As punishment, Ratman was forced to run on all fours around the Town Hall. The chatty wife was told to take a stick and climb on her husband's back. After Ratman ran around the Town Hall with his wife on his back, his head was cut off.

They say that the ghosts of the executed appear at night in the square.
