Church of the Epiphany of the Lord

Церковь Богоявления Господням, Губарёво, Voronezhskaya oblast', Russian Federation

Description

In 1657, a wooden Epiphany Church was built in the village, which was rebuilt in 1701 and 1800. The now preserved stone church was built in 1800 at the expense of the landowner - major Ivan Joachim Nevezhin.
The church is a stone, three—altar, with a tiered bell tower.

In Soviet times it was closed, now abandoned. Currently , the Epiphany Church in Gubarevo by decree of the Administration of the Voronezh Region No. 850 of August 14 , 1995 . it is an object of historical and cultural heritage of regional significance.

According to local legend, in 1929 the Bolsheviks announced the closure of the church, began to dismantle it, but no one wanted to remove the crosses. One of the Bolsheviks climbed up, followed by a local guy who was considered a fool. The guy fell and crashed. For some reason, he was buried not according to the rules, but simply wrapped in a piece of cloth. Because of this, it is believed that his restless spirit is still wandering somewhere nearby and sometimes you can even see him.

Our comments

In November 2021, we visited this place and took some photos. Despite the fact that the object is considered abandoned, the place is quite well maintained. The antiquity of the building is felt, but the details that were completed and rebuilt later are visible.

It was not possible to see or photograph the ghost, as well as to find someone who would have seen it before.

Despite this, those who like old buildings of this kind can get a lot of pleasure because of the atmosphere and details.
